This course is designed to encourage participants to explore an array of painting with palette knife techniques. Using acrylics, one can freely push, slather, slice, swirl, trowel and layer paint on a tabletop canvas, creating unique visual works. Work can be abstract or impressionistic, glossy smooth or roughly textured, water-color ethereal, or luxurious impasto.
Strokes can create the finest of lines or chart a wide swath. The possibilities are infinite. The first half of each class will focus on playing with different palette knife techniques; the second half will be dedicated to ongoing larger works-in-progress. Instructor Leonard Pinna will encourage each participant to discover and express their own personal aesthetic within a wide range of possibilities. Although acrylic paint tends to dry fairly quickly, using various amounts of paint or layering paint may require additional drying time post-class. Participants should prepare for paint splattering and are advised to wear appropriate attire, apron or hand covering as necessary.
Instructor Leonard Pinna has a background in theatrical set painting and
has painted a variety of work using acrylic paints with palette knives.
